Training

At Hoffman Haus Pet Resort, in partnership with North Carolina K9 Academy, we offer basic obedience training to help you enjoy a well-behaved and happy dog. Our training approach uses natural methods to motivate your dog to perform desired behaviors on their own, making the experience enjoyable for both you and your pet. We focus on positive reinforcement, rather than force, to encourage good behavior.

We also address unwanted behaviors by teaching appropriate corrections. Our trainer will guide you on how to apply these corrections in a way that your dog understands naturally, ensuring the discipline is effective and never abusive.

Training Options

Boarding and Training Program

During this time, our trainers will work on their basic obedience daily, and you will receive regular updates and videos on their progress. At the end of the program, when you come to pick-up, there will be about a one-two hour take-home class. During this class, you and anyone who lives with your dog or handles them should attend. Our trainer will teach you the foundations we have established so that you can continue the training at home.

We start training dogs as early as 8 weeks old. Between the ages of 8 weeks and 15 weeks, the most significant brain development occurs. It's crucial to train your dog during this period and help them become familiar with the world around them.

Depending on your dog's personality and training history, our trainer will advise you whether a 2-week or 4-week training period would better suit you and your dog’s needs.

Private Classes

This program is a hands-on approach. You meet once a week with our trainer, and they will show you how to train your dog. You will be given "homework" to work on with your dog at home, and then you will be expected to go over it in the next week's class. Please note that our trainer does not handle your dog in classes! If your dog doesn't know any commands, you will likely need 6 classes, and the first introduction class is free.

We have found that people often have more success with the Board and Train program than with the Classes. But, the progress made with training ultimately depends on your willingness to work with your dog and your skills as a dog trainer!
